Born out of passion for good food and the desire to create a warm social vibe in a premium setting, Classique Braai Lounge offers customers the perfect reason to get together for scrumptious braai meat and delicious African cuisine.

Perfectly positioned between Durban and PMB, in Hillcrest’s Oxford Village, Classique is the ideal venue in which to socialise or network in a relaxed yet conducive environment.

Entrepreneurs and Hillcrest residents, Langa Sithole (47) and Sandile Dlamini (36), saw a gap in the market for a braai lounge within easy reach of locals and visitors to the area.

“This is an establishment where one can enjoy good food and a pleasant ambience. Dwellers of our area normally travel over 50 kilometers to get the taste that tickles their fancy, so we decided to bring it closer to home,” says Sandile.

Offering good food wouldn’t be complete without serenading jams playing in the background – think urban Umkhumbane or Sophiatown, with a modern twist.

“We are targeting that exclusive market, with a good ear for crisp, timeless South African jazz music. Classique will be a home away from home,” explains Langa.

Overseeing the kitchen and ensuring that the food is of a high standard, is Lungile Nhlanhla (26), the MasterChef South Africa top 5 finalist for Season 1. She was also one of the judges at the Shisanyama Awards and Festival held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

A former food editor at Drum Magazine (Media 24) and current contributing editor for Ginja Food Magazine, Lungile promises a unique and satisfying dining experience and invites guests from other cultural backgrounds to come and try authentic African cuisine.

On the menu you will find braai meat (beef, lamb, chicken and boerewors), Usu (tripe), Jeqe (steamed bread), inyama yenhloko (lip meat), giblets curry, amadumbe and many more distinctly African dishes.

The owners are confident that Classique will not only have local appeal but national and international appeal as well.

“Most people come to Durban for the beach, stunning weather and good food. We have just added another good reason to visit the area,” concludes Sandile.
